Description

READ: As the title says, this is an update for the design of Ulyvern, both in appearance/sprite and in Pokedex information. Hope you enjoy. Original Sprite is included to show the underside of the Pokemon, incase anyone would like to draw it. (By all means, by the way. rofl)

Pokedex Info
Ulyvern

Ul (Skyrim Dragon Language for "Eternity") + Wyvern

The Wyvern Pokemon

Type: Dragon/Flying
Ability: Rapid Fire (Unique ability, negates the need to recharge between certain moves. Examples: Hyper Beam, Giga Impact.)

Evolved from Aerodactyl via Leveling Up while knowing Dragonbreath.

A recently discovered Pokemon, Ulyvern is the results of revived Aerodactyls being bred in captivity with other species, most notably Altaria. It has been theorized that Ulyvern is a more complete form or a modernized evolution of Aerodactyl that had been created through the reintroduction of Dragon-Type cells into the Pokemon's genetic structure.

Base Stats:
HP: 90
Attack: 60
Defense 80
Special Attack: 130
Special Defense: 80
Speed: 130
Total: 570

So.. Quite the update from before, right? The new sprite was made entirely from scratch, and the new method of evolution for Aerodactyl is a nod towards how Piloswine evolves by leveling up and knowing ancient power (Although in this case, it is a sort of reversal of the process). I do like this origin for Aerodactyl better, especially since it seems like Fossil Pokemon can be looked at as "incomplete" sometimes since it seems like they're only rock types because of their origins (I mean Armaldo is said to hunt deep in the ocean. Would that mean it was a Bug/Water type prior to being revived from a fossil?), and I found the concept of Aerodactyl fully realizing its potential and shedding its rock-type status through specific breeding to be rather fun. One of the main concepts behind this was Jurassic Park, and that detail that when recreating dinosaurs from Old Amber, they used Frog DNA to complete the holes within the genetic code. Hence the idea of Altaria's Dragon-Typing being the Frog DNA in this case.

So yeah.. Aerodactyl evolves, inspired by Reign of Fire, Skyrim, etc. Stats are elevated to near pseudo-legendary level (Because it was in some ways 1-up'd by Archeon, which seems kind of a waste to me. >>) and altered so that it is more of a special attacker (Similar to what happens when Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon), etc.. You know I really have found myself liking Aerodactyl more and more. I recently had my fire team go against a Ghost-type team, and Arcanine tearing those Ghosts a new one reminded me of how much better it would be to have a fast & hard-hitting Pokemon like it or Aero for a main choice rather than underpowered Charmeleon. But that's a rant for another time.

A charming young lady commented on the original file and said that the name seems off due to using a language from a different franchise, and while I can't really argue with her on that, I'm keeping it the way it is. Why? A) What else would we call it that would fit as well? I've seen enough lame "Terrodactyl" evolution names for it as is. B) I don't think there would be name origins in the Pokemon universe. Pokemon are probably just named after the only thing they can say. I don't recall seeing any salamanders for Charmander to be named after in Kanto. C) Sure, it doesn't have part of its name in regards to its prevolution.. But it is meant to be leaving its prehistoric status behind, so... D) The X & Y mascots have some pretty weird-ass names if you ask me, especially compared to this. So why not? XD But still I did appreciate her rather extensive feedback, and I hope to receive such input more often.

Anyway, hope you all enjoy.

Oh yeah, to have a little fun, Ulyvern's pose is a reference to something Pokemon-related. If you get it right, you get a cookie. Hell, might as well make it a request since I'm a bit bored trying to get other projects to a level of satisfaction I'd like anyway.

:iconcommentplz: You know, guys, I really did work hard on this for over an hour. Sure it wasn't as long as the first time, but that's because I had all the info down this time. It took a long-ass time until I was satisfied with this... So do me a favor: Comment instead of just faving. Even if it's just a 1-worded comment like "cool". It's 10x better to me than the soulless and uninteresting message of it being added to someone's favorites. Thanks in advanced.

Pokemon & Aerodactyl belong to Nintendo & Gamefreak.
Ulyvern belongs to yours truly.

Gorgeous! Nailed the shading on the armor. And the mouth is perfectly proportioned and angled! Only thing is maybe the left wing needs its angled adjusted ever so slightly. But that's one miniscule thing where the sprite looks so good no one would ever notice it. Is it free to use/edit with credit? I'd like to play around with it if that's ok.
